Joni's Day at the SenateOn Thursday, October 9, 1997, Joni visited with Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, a Member of the Healthcare Committe. She presented her concerns about healthcare and the Amputee. Several issues were brought to the table - Funding, Lack of regulation in the industry, No federal standards in socket design, Inconsistent billing practices etc...... The Senator and his staff were most interested in the information presented and he assigned a staff member to begin a fact finding mission. He also stated that he would have his investigative departments gather information for him as well as the Department of Labor and the GAO (Government Accounting Office). Also present at the meeting was a Prosthetist and attorney, as well as other amputees and a reporter and cameraman from Fox 45 in Baltimore. Joni presented to the Senator all of the letters she had received from the folks on the Internet as well as records she has compiled over the last 3 years. She presented this information to Senator Dorgan, Fox 45, and Congressman Bill Luther of Minnesota. Here are some photos of our day in Washington: |
